Natural Resources

Development of lands and resources is expected on the West Side of Cook Inlet.  This development will likely have significant impact on the traditional lifestyles of the indigenous people of the area, or Tebughna (“Beach People”).

Tyonek’s Board and management are positioning the Corporation to find a balance between protecting its people from negative consequences of development, and using resource development to benefit shareholders and their descendants.  Some of the largest projects currently in progress are as follows:

Oil & Gas.  The Cook Inlet is currently experiencing a decline in resource development and infrastructure improvements for resource projects.

Coal.  The PacRim Coal Company is also entering into the final phases of permitting for a shoreside coal mine just 7 miles north of Tyonek.  http://www.chuitnacoalproject.com/.  The Chuitna Coal project could provide hundreds of jobs and contracting opportunities.
